How to anticipate the impact of the reskilling revolution?

How to build opportunities from challenging times?

Being aware of tomorrow’s opportunities allow us, as employers or employees, to adapt, invest and anticipate for producing better results.

In fact, every one of us faces the Covid-19 pandemic which provokes radical changes in our social system and it shook and shakes a lot of sectors in our economy. Nevertheless, it has been a boost for some sectors but for sure it impacted and shift our perspectives.

Indeed, not only the automation of work but also the global recession led to the loss of employment and major financial hardship. And, this trend is expected to carry on.

The economy is pivoting between humans, machines, and algorithms:

  • It will probably displace 85 million jobs in the following next 3 years (from now to 2025) in the world.
  • While 97 million new roles will be created.
  • “The Future of Jobs Report 2020” highlighted the fact that machines and tasks at work by humans will be equal (50% each) by 2025.

“By 2025, companies are expected to displace roughly 6% of their total workforce. 1 in 2 workers will need reskilling to adapt to the changing labour market. 40% of workers who keep their role will need to update their skill set.” – World Economic Forum

How to collectively benefit from these challenging times?

First of all, by being aware of the situation we can channel our energy to collaborate and lead the change of our global crisis into a unique opportunity for the community.

Also, from decades of economic research, we know that the most valuable asset of any company is PEOPLE. A lot of companies are investing in upskilling and reskilling their people. By 2025, 70% of people will benefit from new skills to ensure a better transition into tomorrow’s jobs.

Consequently, most of active workers do not need to master the skill set to start transitioning. It is the responsibility of each of us to transform “tomorrow jobs” into a sustainable, fair, and inclusive movement to all prosper.
